Once when my friend Dan was taking a long bus ride to work, he sat down next to a very old woman who proceeded to tell him her life story. The “Wonder Bread” line is a direct-quote from her, as is the fact that she outlived her husband of many years. She apparently now spends a lot of her time people-watching at an Applebee’s bar in the outskirts of Providence. This song is about first loves and losses.
lyrics
Your hand to mine is sparks to the spine
So many now its got me half blind, thinkin
Maybe its time that we let go
Got mud in my chest and clouds in the brain
I’m stuck in the spring, drinkin down rain
Maybe its time that we let go
Juliette wakes at the break of dawn
She’s 80 years old and her husbands gone
Juliette says child move along
The wonderbread aint sposed to last this long
So much of you for so many years
The reddest of roses, bluest of tears
Maybe its time that we let go
This candy cane lovin spun me up tight it’s
Got me twistin right outa sight
Baby its time we let go
Juliette wakes at the break of dawn
She’s 80 years old and her husbands gone
Juliette says child move along
Juliette wakes at the break of dawn
She’s 80 years old and her husbands gone
Juliette says child move along
The wonderbread aint sposed to last this long
